MBI Demolishes Unauthorized Structures in Ipoh

By: Zaki Saleh

IPOH: Constructing any structure on land not owned by oneself violates the law.

Following the issuance of notices, the Ipoh City Council (MBI) demolished nine unauthorized structures between February 17 and 24.

These structures, which included animal enclosures, storage units, and vehicle parking sheds, were built on public reserves without approval.

The demolition process was carried out under the Streets, Drainage and Building Act 1974 (Act 133), with a 30-day compliance period given before enforcement action was taken.

Under this act, no structures can be erected on public land without prior authorization. However, compliance extensions may be granted at MBI’s discretion.

The cases involved in this round of demolitions had already received extensions exceeding one year.

The operation was conducted with the involvement of enforcement officers from MBI, along with representatives from the police, Perak Water Board, Tenaga Nasional Berhad, the District and Land Office, and the Perak Land and Mines Office.
