IPOH: The residents of Ipoh, especially those around Taman Cempaka, were alarmed by the sight of many police vehicles and armed officers around 9 a.m.

Panic ensued when gunshots were heard from the direction of Politeknik Ungku Omar (PUO), with many students seen running around.

At the same time, numerous WhatsApp messages were received, and a video recording of the incident, which seemed like a crime happening on the PUO campus, went viral.

It was only by 10:15 a.m. that the public’s concern was alleviated when it was revealed that the police were conducting a training session there, as announced in a press release from the Ipoh District Police Headquarters (IPD).

According to the media statement, the police were conducting a Crisis Management and Handling Training for the 69th Commando Unit of the Royal Malaysian Police (EX KURUNG 2025).

This training was carried out by the 69 Commando team at the PUO Astra Campus.

Meanwhile, the management of PUO also issued a statement regarding the training.

“Currently, various speculations have gone viral about staff or students being injured during the simulation.

“PUO would like to inform that, so far, only one student has sustained minor injuries and is receiving treatment,” the statement said.

The Ministry of Health also attended the PUO campus to provide medical assistance and psychological services for the staff and students.
