Modern Renaissance-Man in the Making

The foundations of tomorrow are laid today, as we see with young Shaamlan A/L Satthiya Seelan, a Form 1 student from SMK St. Michael Ipoh.

At the age of only 13, young Shaamlan has already accrued a wide range of accolades. From academics and sports to innovation, Satthiya has achieved recognition all around.

In 2024, he earned numerous awards, such as the Certificate of Achievement (COA) as Champion for Outstanding Male Student for Primary School at the North Kinta District Level from the North Kinta District Education Office, 3 gold and 1 bronze medal in archery from the North Kinta District School Sports Council, as well as medals, plaques and trophies for various academic pursuits, such as debate, writing and persuasive speaking.

He had recently received a COA from the World Youth STEM Invention Innovation (WYSII) 2025, which was held from February 23 to 27 at the Sinabung Hill Resort in Medan, Indonesia. He was awarded the Gold Award for his submission of a Solar Powered Intelligent Irrigation System. WYSII also awarded him the Best Sustainability Award for the same.

And these are all just a fraction on his list of awards and accomplishments.

As a Renaissance-man in the making, Shaamlan has interests in a wide number of intellectual as well as physical pursuits, from debates, to karate and archery and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) topics.

The son of supportive parents, Satthiya Seelan, a mechanic and Loges Sockalingam, a teacher; they encourage him to follow his passions.

We are all excited to see where these passions will lead this Ipoh Boy.
