IPOH: Two business premises in Bandar Seri Botani and Batu Gajah were raided on Wednesday after being found selling counterfeit products involving maintenance liquids of well-known vehicle brands.
The Director of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDN) Perak State, Datuk Kamalludin Ismail, said that 748 units of engine oil, 1,304 units of gear oil, and 22 units of engine coolant were discovered at the premises.
He stated that all of these items were suspected of using trademark labels that were wrongfully applied to the products.
“The raid was carried out based on complaints and information from the trademark owner’s representative, who reported the sale of suspected counterfeit vehicle maintenance liquids from famous brands at the premises.
“The trademark representative conducted an initial verification of the items involved and suspected that the premises had committed an offense under the Trade Marks Act 2019.
“Since the premises had possession, custody, or control for the purpose of trade or manufacturing of any goods bearing a registered trademark that was wrongfully applied under Section 100.
“This is a suspected offense under Section 102 (1) (c) of the Trade Marks Act 2019,” he said in a statement on Thursday.
As a result, all the items and documents were seized for further investigation.
He further explained that the total value of the seizure involving the two premises in the district was estimated at RM37,035.20.
Therefore, the case will be investigated under the Trade Marks Act 2019.
