1,000 tons of used cooking oil collected at Ipoh Ramadan Bazaar

IPOH: An initiative to reduce the disposal of used cooking oil (UCO) at the Ipoh Ramadan bazaars has yielded results, with 1,000 tons successfully collected.

This was made possible through an initiative by the Ipoh City Council (MBI) in collaboration with Green Energy Asia Biofuel Resources (Green Energy Asia).

The collection took place over 25 days, starting from March 2, across 8 Ramadan bazaars.

GEA’s Business Development Chief, Muhammad Aswad Abdul Rashid, said the used cooking oil collected will be recycled into biofuel and biodiesel.

This initiative involved a payment of RM3,000 to over 200 vendors.

“This initiative not only helps reduce environmental pollution but also provides a cleaner energy source.

“The collaboration between GEA and MBI exists, but this is the first time we are collecting used cooking oil directly at selected Ramadan bazaars,” he said.

This way, vendors can directly sell their used cooking oil to GEA personnel according to the set schedule.

This year’s Ramadan bazaar management by MBI follows an eco-friendly concept with circular economic activities, including the collection of used cooking oil from all vendors participating in the recycling program.
