IPOH: In addition to traditional cakes and popular cookies served to guests during Hari Raya, it is incomplete for the people of Ipoh if there are no snacks on the table.

Serving jars of snacks such as mixed muruku or peanuts has now become a must.

These supplies are of course purchased from a specific location here, Kampung Kacang Putih Buntong.

Mixed muruku, pakoda, sivel, dal, aulu, poori, Sri Lankan pakoda, omom, kadalai, and milk peanuts are among the items sold.

Also not to be missed are various flavored tapioca chips, siput cookies, and goyang cookies, which can be found in any shop there.

For the past week, the white peanut shops here have been extremely busy serving the constant flow of customers who leave the shops with two or three plastic bags full.

A customer, Yong Rozitah Ahmad, said she must buy mixed muruku and various types of peanuts to serve to guests during Aidilfitri.

She said Buntong’s mixed muruku is very popular.

“Many relatives returning to Ipoh love eating white peanuts or Buntong muruku. That’s why I make sure there’s mixed muruku on the table,” she said.

Mixed muruku and Buntong white peanuts have also become gifts for those who go to other places to celebrate.

A civil servant, Norhayati Omar, shared that she spent more than RM200 purchasing various types of food and snacks from there as gifts to take back for her Raya celebration in Selangor.

“I bought large and small packs of mixed muruku that my relatives in the village ordered.

“Mixed muruku Buntong is also given as a gift when visiting other relatives’ houses,” she added.
