IPOH: The Perak state government, together with the Ministry of Public Works, has decided to implement a new traffic flow system to ease congestion in Tapah Town.
The Menteri Besar Perak, Dato’ Seri Saarani Mohamad, said that the implementation would be carried out in two phases.
The first phase involves improvements to the existing one-way route, which will begin on April 7 and end on April 30, with a budget of RM2.2 million from the Federal Government.
“Among the works to be carried out include converting temporary routes into permanent ones, resurfacing the roads, constructing road dividers, and installing new signs and road markings.
“Additionally, we will open a route to the mosque via Tapah Road and improve the junction near Sekolah Kebangsaan Satu.”
For the second phase, the construction of a new bypass road will begin this year and continue until 2027, with a state development cost of RM17 million.
“Among the work involves connecting FT001 Section 539.0 to FT059 Section 2.0, providing an alternative route for users travelling from Cameron Highlands to Kampar and Bidor without passing through Tapah Town.
“The new route will span 300 meters, meet R5 standards, and include two new intersections with street lights,” he explained in a statement.
He further mentioned that the state government is also aware of the issues faced by small traders affected by the implementation of this system.
“Following discussions, a strategic location has been proposed as a relocation site for the vendors.
“We are confident that once both phases are completed, the traffic flow will be much smoother, and business operations, tourist movements, and community activities will be more efficient and safer,” he said.
