On 27 March, Quest International University (QIU) announced the successful completion of its third consecutive annual iftar celebration, which brought joy and community spirit to children from local welfare homes.
The event, held at QIU’s in-house cafeteria, La Place Cafe, welcomed more than 100 children and young adults from Yayasan Amanah An-Nur Maisarah, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak Yatim Dan Miskin Ar-Ridwani, and Pusat Jagaan Anak-Anak Yatim dan Miskin Nurul Iman.
Jointly organised by the university’s Muslim Society and Student Life Division, the celebration was filled with a vibrant atmosphere as QIU students and staff delivered an array of musical performances, delighting the young guests and their caregivers.
The evening was further enhanced by the distribution of duit raya (Eid money) and an assortment of festive goodies, ensuring every participant experienced the warmth and generosity of the Ramadan spirit. Guests were also entertained by a special Hari Raya Aidilfitri wish from iconic performer Harith Iskander.
“It is customary to share our rezeki (livelihood) with the community. Joy, prosperity, and happiness are meant to be shared with our community, especially the young and those in need of attention,” said QIU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Zita Mohd Fahmi. “Throughout the 15 years that we’ve been here, we have always recognised the importance for QIU to get closer to the community, especially the needy.”
Over the past three years, QIU’s iftar celebrations have become a cherished community tradition. Each iteration builds on the success of previous years, with the 2023 and 2024 events laying a strong foundation for this year’s celebration.
The ongoing initiative highlights QIU’s dedication to nurturing community bonds and extending support to children from underprivileged backgrounds during the holy month of Ramadan.
The students’ involvement in this activity has allowed them to gain precious hands-on experience in putting together a successful event. Students from different programmes banded together to prepare meals, decorate the venue, entertain the children, and ensure the event go off without a hitch.
