IPOH, March 31: Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad has stressed the importance of strengthening unity among Malaysians to prevent the nation from falling into conflict and division.

He made the remarks during his speech at the Perak State Hari Raya Aidilfitri Celebration, which was held today at Stadium Indera Mulia.

The event was graced by the presence of the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, and Raja Permaisuri Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim.

Saarani expressed concern over the spread of hateful narratives on social media, which he said threatens racial harmony in the country.

He noted that the younger generation is particularly vulnerable to divisive language because they do not understand the true meaning of the unity Malaysia has long enjoyed.

“Today’s society is often caught up in polarizing debates where intellectual discourse is sidelined in favour of prejudice and emotions. This is worrying as social media has become a platform for hate speech to spread slander and sow discord,” he said.

He called on Malaysians to rekindle the spirit of togetherness and mutual respect to preserve the nation’s prosperity.

“On this blessed day, let us strengthen the bonds of unity by nurturing the spirit of harmony. We bear the responsibility to unite and bring peace, not to create division,” Saarani added.

Also present at the event were Raja Muda Perak, Raja Jaafar ibni Almarhum Raja Muda Musa; Raja DiHilir Perak, Raja Iskandar Dzurkarnain Ibni Almarhum Sultan Idris A’fifullah Shah, as well as other state dignitaries.

The joyous celebration saw people from various races coming together to mark Aidilfitri in a harmonious atmosphere.

A variety of traditional dishes were served, reflecting the rich cultural diversity of Perak.
