IPOH: For the past 10 years, the panjut and decorative light contest has been a must-do event every Raya night in Kampung Pasir Puteh.
Panjut, a traditional bamboo lamp, serves as a decorative light during the Aidilfitri celebrations.
This event is not just a decoration contest, but also a platform to strengthen ties among family, friends, and the local community.
This year, the event was held again to liven up the Raya festivities.
A total of 12 houses participated in the contest, with each house owner decorating their homes creatively with panjut lights.
Since its inception, the contest has attracted visitors from various districts, including those from outside Ipoh.
It has increasingly gained attention as a cultural heritage tourism attraction in the Ipoh Timor area.
Meanwhile, Ipoh Timor Member of Parliament, Howard Lee, shared that the event was organized by the Pasir Puteh Village Youth Community Club and the Village Development and Security Committee of Kampung Pasir Puteh.
It received support from the Ipoh Timor Member of Parliament’s Office and the Tebing Tinggi State Legislative Assembly member.
“Two nights ago, Kampung Pasir Puteh resonated throughout Ipoh Timor with the sounds of cannons, firecrackers, and honking horns, marking the approaching success of Syawal.
“This year’s celebration was extraordinary. Many visitors from outside the area came, causing the village to become overcrowded.
“As a judge, I had to use alternative roads to arrive earlier than the others,” he said.
He also expressed his gratitude to the various parties involved, including the Pasir Puteh Police Station, the fire department, MBI Council Members from Zones 15, 16, and 17, and Masjid Al-Abidin Pasir Puteh.
