IPOH: Age is no barrier when it comes to contributing to the Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) scheme.
This reminder is especially important for self-employed individuals, as age should not be seen as a limitation in receiving protection.
Such was the case for a 70-year-old imam, Ustaz Abdul Wahab, who sustained injuries after being involved in an accident.
He met with the accident while returning home after performing Subuh prayers at the Kampung Malau Mosque in Gerik.
Abdul Wahab is registered as a Self-Employed Insured Person (OBBS) under the Self-Employment Social Security Scheme (SKSPS).
His contributions were fully sponsored by the government through the SPS Madani Programme – House of Worship Services (JAKIM).
Following a medical assessment, the incident was confirmed as a work-related mishap, qualifying him to receive the Permanent Disablement Benefit (HUK) under the SKSPS.
As a gesture of concern, SOCSO Kuala Kangsar Office manager Noriah Abd Karim, together with the Gerik District Islamic Affairs Office mosque coordinator Ustaz Arief Ramadhan Ha Ali, visited Abdul Wahab to present a benefit voucher.
In a statement, SOCSO reminded self-employed individuals such as small traders, food delivery riders, fishermen, farmers, and house of worship workers that coverage under SKSPS is crucial.
The scheme protects contributors against occupational accidents and diseases, providing vital assistance when it is most needed.
