TAPAH: The redevelopment project for the dilapidated classroom block at SJKC Kampung Coldstream in Bidor is progressing as scheduled.
The project, approved with an allocation of RM5.9mil in 2023, began construction in September 2024 and is expected to be completed later this year.
Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh said the redevelopment involves the construction of four classrooms, two toilets and several supporting facilities.
He said a report by the Public Works Department (JKR) in 2014 had declared the existing wooden building unsafe and recommended its demolition.
“I had the opportunity to visit SJKC Kampung Coldstream and review the status of the redevelopment works.
“Pupils from Year Three to Year Six will be relocated to the new block once it is completed.
“The existing rooms will then be repurposed into special-use classrooms such as an arts room, science room and Design and Technology (RBT) room,” he said in a statement.
Wong added that rebuilding dilapidated school buildings remains one of the key focuses of the Education Ministry.
“As of 2024, a total of 1,076 redevelopment projects for dilapidated school buildings have been approved nationwide, with a cumulative cost of RM8.412bil.
“Of this total, 717 projects have been completed, 174 are currently under construction, and 185 are in the pre-construction phase,” he added.
