IPOH: The Ministry of National Unity (KPN), in collaboration with the Malaysian Siamese Association, will be organising the National Songkran Celebration at the Songkran Hall, Kampung Tasek, Pengkalan Hulu.
The event, which will be officiated by the Minister of National Unity, Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, will take place from April 11 to 13.
Songkran is the main and a meaningful celebration in the calendar of the Bumiputera Siam community in Malaysia. It marks the arrival of the new year with gratitude and joy.
This celebration is also rich in cultural values, aiming to introduce the traditions, arts, and culture of the Siamese ethnic minority in Malaysia.
Aaron said that this celebration serves as an important platform to introduce the customs and culture of the Siamese community to the people of Malaysia.
“This celebration is in line with the Madani Government’s goal of cultivating unity and celebrating the diversity of races, cultures, and religions in Malaysia. This celebration will strengthen the ties between various ethnic groups while enhancing and empowering the unity of Malaysian society by celebrating the festival together in a harmonious atmosphere,” he said.
The three-day event will be filled with various exciting activities such as the traditional Songkran parade, cultural exhibitions, and traditional food stalls.
There will also be cultural performances (dance, arts, and music), traditional games competitions, water splashing activities, and social and artistic activities with the community.
