IPOH: The creative arts industry in Perak continues to receive support from the state government with an allocation of RM397,000 awarded to People of Remarkable Talents (PORT).
This funding aims to support the growth and sustainability of visual arts, music, and modern and contemporary performing arts practitioners through the Perak@PORT Creative Fund 2024/2025.
PORT General Manager, Nur Hanim Khairuddin, stated that this year, they received 245 applications, and after evaluation, 115 proposals were approved.
Each proposal underwent a thorough screening and assessment process by the DKP Advisory Panel.
“This allocation covers three categories: Visual Arts (RM160,000), Music Arts (RM178,000), and Performing Arts (RM59,000).
“Projects include album recordings, visual art exhibitions, arts and film workshops, short film productions, documentaries, music videos, comic publications, and various other artistic initiatives.
“Program locations include Kuala Kangsar, Taiping, Tanjung Malim, Gerik, and Parit Buntar,” she explained.
The funding was officially handed over by the Menteri Besar Perak, Dato’ Seri Saarani Mohamad.
Introduced in 2019, the DKP (Creative Fund) is a more structured art assistance scheme.
Priority is given to artists and entrepreneurs in the creative industry who are originally from Perak or have lived in the state for at least five years.
The assistance is open to individuals aged between 18 and 50 who produce works or carry out projects related to the creative arts.
