MANJUNG: Authorities have detected a business owner in Sitiawan selling subsidized 1-kilogram (kg) cooking oil packets at RM2.80, which is RM0.30 above the government-fixed price.
The violation was uncovered through ‘Ops Tiris 3.0’, a crackdown operation aimed at curbing the manipulation of controlled goods, specifically 1kg cooking oil packets.
The government has set the market price for the subsidized cooking oil at RM2.50.
Director of the Perak Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, Dato’ Kamaludin Ismail, said the offense was discovered following a public complaint.
He stated that KPDN Perak enforcement officers conducted a survey at the premises and purchased the cooking oil at RM2.80 per packet.
“Proof was obtained through the sales receipt provided upon request.
“Further inspection also uncovered additional 1kg cooking oil packets stored in the premises’ storage area.
“The retailer failed to comply with the directive by selling the cooking oil packets above the set price of RM2.50 per packet,” he said.
A total of 465 packets of 1kg cooking oil worth RM1,162.50 were seized for investigation.
