By Julian Matthews

Tonight, as every night, I am closed,
cool as any sedentary fool, emptied of
splashing arms and legs.
No screechy fry to agitate the chlorine,
and sear my one watery eye.
Always so glad when left alone,
I can be still, reflect the moon
and swoon to the meditative rotation of my friend,
Mr Night Sky,
sequinned with stars like shiny eyes,
pondering my onerous fate
as human playmate, instead of shimmering poet.
