IPOH: More people-centric development plans are set to be implemented in the state of Perak, particularly in Ipoh, as part of ongoing government initiatives.
Among them is an allocation of RM15 million for the redevelopment of the iconic Ipoh Central Market.
The revamped market, located in the heart of the city, will retain its function as a key attraction.
Minister of Housing and Local Government and Member of Parliament for Teluk Intan, Nga Kor Ming, said that preparation works are currently underway.
Nga, who is also the State Assemblyman (ADUN) for Kepayang, shared that the Ipoh City Council (MBI) recently launched a concept design competition for the market.
“The competition seeks innovative design ideas that are pedestrian-friendly and incorporate elements of environmental sustainability.
“It offers a total prize pool of RM65,000 for the winners,” he said.
In addition, Nga stated that RM12 million has been allocated for the reconstruction of Pasar Pinji, with works already in progress.
Meanwhile, a further RM1 million has been approved for the construction of a temporary market in Buntong.
In a related development, Nga also announced that DAP successfully raised RM1 million within nine days for the Gas Explosion Relief Fund in Putera Heights, Subang Jaya, Selangor.
This, he said, reflects the solidarity of the people with DAP in helping affected residents.
