Riding E-Scooters, Bicycles Recklessly on Pedestrian Paths Poses Danger

By Aida Aziz

KAMPAR: Pedestrian paths, which are meant for walking, are instead being dominated by electric vss scooters and bicycles.

This situation not only poses a danger to pedestrians but is also made worse by the reckless behavior of some individuals who speed along these paths, potentially causing injuries if they collide with others.

According to one complainant, the pedestrian path in question runs along Jalan Batu Hijau, in front of Dataran Niaga Bandar Baru, here.

The complainant, identified as Endang Hyder, said the path is near the route from Sekolah Kebangsaan Sentosa heading to Dataran Niaga Bandar Baru.

He claimed the issue stems from certain students from a private institution of higher learning nearby who frequently ride electric scooters and bicycles at high speeds, ignoring warnings from the public.

“This issue has been ongoing for a long time—please share it with the relevant authorities, especially the Kampar District Council.

“Electric scooters and bicycles are used on this path without consideration for the safety of pedestrians.

“Are we going to wait for someone to get hit before taking action? Most of them are college students riding dangerously.

“I’m speaking on behalf of the school students who use this pedestrian path—there’s a yellow lane on one side that’s actually designated for electric scooters and bicycles,” he said.

Meanwhile, many social media users also agreed with the concerns raised.

One Facebook user said that the local authorities should take immediate action to resolve the issue.

They also suggested that the Kampar District Council install metal posts to prevent such vehicles from entering the pedestrian area.
