Barber shops, including salons offering grooming and beauty services, have been allowed to resume operation for almost two weeks now with strict adherence to the health and safety standard operating procedures (SOPs).
The SOPs include the use of disposable aprons, face shields and a new set of gloves when serving different customers.
Nurraimi Roslan, 24, who runs the Rockabilly Barber Shop shared that his team has no problem adhering to the SOPs fully as urged by the National Security Council (MKN) and Ministry of Health (KKM).
“Even though there are a lot of customers, we always ensure that they practise social distancing and adhere to the SOPs. Customers who come must sanitise their hands, undergo temperature screening and record their attendance in the book provided,” he explained to Ipoh Echo on Monday, June 22.
Only four customers and seven employees are allowed to be in his premises at a time, with a distance of two metres apart between the seats.
“Every day, we receive between 50 to 60 customers. Due to the new SOPs, we have to charge an additional fee of RM5 for every service. Before the MCO, we charged RM20 for a haircut for an adult. Starting June 10, we charge RM25 for adults and RM20 for children. After every haircut, we will sanitise all the tools used including the scissors, hair clippers, comb and the seat,” he stated.
According to Nurraimi, haircuts for elderly of age 60 and above are strictly by appointments only while children below the age of 7 are not allowed to get their haircuts here.
Haziq Ramli, 25, a customer spotted in the premises pointed out that the SOPs are not only for the benefit of customers, it also ensures the safety of the barber shop owners.
“We have to play our role to break the chain of COVID-19 infection by adhering to the SOPs,” he added.
