Ipoh mayor, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin aims for Ipoh to attain at least 45 percent of carbon reduction by 2030.
He stated that the Low Carbon City and Government Green Procurement (GGP) Execution Plan Development workshop at Weil Hotel launched just today on July 9 is a platform to realise the target.
“Ipoh City Council (MBI) is one of four local authorities (PBT) chosen to be a part of the project,” Rumaizi enthused. “This will be a pioneering project at PBT level in Malaysia via upgrading existing street lights into energy-saving ones in the effort to support the Low Carbon City initiative.
“Through this workshop, a practical documentation covering multiple aspects will then be used to make the Low Carbon City 2030 Challenge (LCC2030C) programme in Ipoh a success,” he expressed.
The workshop, jointly organised by MBI, Malaysia Green Technology and Climate Change Centre (MGTC) and other agencies puts forward 10 programmes, mainly energy savings, photovoltaic (PV) solar energy, bicycle and electric vehicle (EV) lanes, usage of vehicles with low carbon emission and addition of trees in low carbon zones.
According to Rumaizi, MBI will work hand-in-hand with MGTC in the installation of EV Charger, Green Data Centre, MyRelamp project and continuous training for MBI staff.
“Hopefully, the workshop will improve participants’ understanding in facing LCC2030C,” he remarked. “This also goes in line with making Ipoh cleaner, greener and more progressive.”
