Free Scholarships in the Beauty Industry (11 Aug 2014)
OPPORTUNITIES TO REJUVENATE CAREERS
As the middle income continues to grow and consumers have discretionary income to spend on wellness, career opportunities in the spa industry are greater than ever. Under Malaysia’s Economic Transformation Program (ETP), 12 Entry Point Projects (EPPs) were identified for implementation, with Spa and Wellness Tourism being one of the EPPs with the potential to contribute RM400 million in Gross National Income and create 3,500 new jobs by 2020.
Aimed at reducing the heavy dependence on foreign spa therapists, the Ministry of Tourism and Culture (MOTAC) has appointed and certified Beaubelle Academy as a Center of Excellence (COE) where full scholarships are provided to students to meet the market demand for well-trained local spa therapists. Led by Ruby Siah, Founder and Principal of Beaubelle Academy and appointed as the leading country expert on beauty therapy, Beaubelle Academy provides the most holistic knowledge and skills related to wellness, holistic beauty and spa education.
“We are committed to providing students with a career in which they can grow and develop,” expresses Ruby Siah. “This collaboration with MOTAC provides meaningful employment, generates income for students who are more inclined to vocational skill training pathway, fulfills the urgent demand for spa therapists and contributes to the achievements of spa tourism targets. Beaubelle Academy has so far successfully trained 94 students under this program”.
Under the initiative, scholarships worth RM 9,500.00 will be awarded to each student for the 3-month long theoretical and practical course at the academy coupled with a 9-month long industry attachment training. Upon the completion of the program, graduates will be qualified as spa therapists certified by the Department of Skills Development (JPK) with Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM) Level 3 from the Malaysian Ministry of Human Resources and given opportunities to work at 3 to 5-star rated spas awarded by MOTAC. The Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat in Ipoh, Pullman Putrajaya Lakeside Hotel, Shangri-La Hotel, The Majestic Spa KL and Avillion Spa Port Dickson are among the many employers who are Beaubelle Academy’s strategic industry partners.
The scholarship program is offered to Malaysians aged 18-40. Those with household income of less than RM3000 per month will be covered with a monthly allowance of up to RM300 per month during the 3-month course at the academy. If required, hostel arrangements can be made for the students.
