Gua Tempurung Eco-Challenge
The Perak International Gua Tempurung Eco-Challenge held at the iconic site recently, attracted a large number of local and foreign extreme-sport enthusiasts. The event which was divided into four age groups, tested the participants’ mental and physical capacities to the maximum.
According to Executive Councilor of Tourism and Culture, Dato’ Noleee Ashilin Mohd Radzi, the event not only succeeded in encouraging the public to take part in a healthy sporting activity but also helped in promoting Gua Tempurung as one of the major tourist attractions in Perak.
“The response, especially from foreigners, was most encouraging. This is indeed a good start in bringing more tourists to the cave and turning it into a tourism hot spot,” she told reporters. Nolee added that the state government was looking into the possibility of making the Gua Tempurung Eco-Challenge an annual affair following the development.
Activities included in the Eco-Challenge were caving, jungle-trekking and river-tubing. Foreign participants were mainly overseas students pursuing courses in Ipoh and Kampar.
