If you wonder how long it takes to be an Accountancy graduate, it is six years.
Here’s the good news!
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Quest International University (QIU) and the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA) which makes the QIU part of the INternary programme.
The INternary programme allows accounting students to qualify as an ACCA member within only two years of graduation.
The collaboration is aimed at providing accountancy students a fast-track journey to become a certified accountant.
Present at the ceremony were Chief Executive Officer of QIU’s holding company Global Integrated Training Associates (GITA) Nicholas Goh, ACCA Malaysia Country Head Edward Ling, Vice-Chancellor Professor Zita Mohd Fahmi and ACCA Malaysia Head of Learning Andrew Lim.
The normal stage for accounting covers four years of degree and extra two years on the ACCA exams. Under the new collaboration, the span of becoming an accountant is relatively shorter as both degree and ACCA qualification combined can be pursued within four years.
“The government’s latest statistics, 60 percent of the graduates don’t get jobs. But I’m proud to say over 80 percent of our graduates get a job within six months. This is because the companies seek quality in our graduates.
“Let’s work together for the betterment of not just the students but also the community,” Nicholas added.
As Edward Ling said, “In support of the Ministry of Higher Education’s effort to strengthen work-based flexible learning, the ACCA INternary programme is a first-of-its-kind collaboration between ACCA, learning partners and employers, which provides accountancy undergraduates with an accelerated pathway to attain a professional qualification while acquiring the industrial experience required to qualify as an ACCA member.”
At present, QIU’s Bachelor of Accountancy (Hons) programme is an ACCA Accredited programme and has secured nine exemptions from examination papers at the ‘Fundamentals’ level of the ACCA Qualification.
