In light of the recent spike of new COVID-19 cases as reported by the Minister of Health (MOH) Malaysia yesterday, Ipohites are urged to ensure that food premises have performed sanitisation and disinfection processes before patronage.
According to the mayor of Ipoh, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin, out of 395 inspections done by Ipoh City Council (MBI) from some 2,850 restaurant and café premises under MBI’s authority, nearly 352 (equivalent to 90 percent) are in adherence to SOPs imposed by the National Security Council (MKN).
“Warning letters have been issued to the remaining 43 premises for non-compliance to SOP guidelines,” he told reporters during a public sanitisation operation at Greentown Avenue today (October 7).
“The operation today is to remind food premise operators of the importance to perform sanitisation and disinfection processes, besides other terms like health screening, customer headcount control and adequate provision of face masks to workers,” Rumaizi added.
“A compound of RM250 may be issued under the Licensing of Food Establishments (MBI) By-Laws 2017 should eateries fail to abide by SOPs by MKN and the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Amendment) Regulations 2020,” he mentioned.
Rumaizi asks for cooperation from all parties in contacting relevant authorities should any food premises be seen in non-compliance.
