By 2025, Ipoh will become one of the most well-known tourist cities in Malaysia which highlights a multitude of attractive tourism products.
The mayor of Ipoh, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin urged all parties involved to cooperate with each other and have a positive mindset to realise the goal.
“Ipoh had its placement circa 1541 and it was surrounded by many limestone hills which are aged approximately 400 million years now,” he told Ipoh Echo when met at the Perak Tourism Association (PTA) ‘Walkabout Heritage Trail with Datuk Bandar’ programme here at Ipoh Old Town today (October 24).
“Through this programme, much information is shared which can be highlighted to improve the tourism industry via products that pose as main assets of Ipoh.
“There will be more mural paintings and we’ll be repairing buildings and areas along the heritage trail. Even so, basic structures of these buildings will be conserved to retain their historical identities,” Rumaizi added.
The Walkabout Heritage Trail is jointly organised by PTA, Ipoh City Council (MBI) and Tourism Perak.
Also present were chief executive officer of Tourism Perak, Nur Nurmalis Musa and more than 50 individuals involved with the programme which comprised public agencies, NGOs and local tourism industry players.
Meanwhile, the president of PTA, Dato’ Mohammad Odzman Abdul Kadir said that Ipoh isn’t only well-known as a heritage town, but it’s also home to countless famous figures.
“Hopefully, MBI and the state government builds a historical monument or the walk of fame as it is in Hollywood as recognition of Perak-born figures like Datuk Lat, Dato’ Michelle Yeoh and many more,” he expressed.
“With a monument like that, I’m confident that it’ll attract more attention from tourists and it’s also an appreciation to the famous figures that brought up the name of Malaysia, especially our state of Perak,” Mohammad Odzman added.
