The Ipoh Family History Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) had its Family History Week from December 2-6. The Elders Quorum President of Ipoh branch, Bro. Tan Seow Heng, welcomed visitors with opening remarks prior to the cutting of the ribbon. He introduced the theme of Family History Week, “The Branches of the Future are Rooted in the Past,” and reflected that, “A life not documented will be a lost record.”
In conjunction with the LDS Family History Week, others were invited to present displays to highlight the importance of remembering past events. Ian Anderson, representing Ipoh World, displayed beautiful, nostalgic pictures depicting the history of Ipoh. Dato’ R. Thambipillay, President, WIRA Association Malaysia, and retired Superintendent of Police, invited visitors to remember veterans and heroes. Two short videos, “Granite Mountain” and “Searching for Emma” were presented to introduce visitors to Genealogy and the importance of keeping a family history.
“Granite Mountain” shows the world’s largest collection of genealogical records housed in a 65,000 square foot secure vault located in the mountains near FamilySearch world headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. FamilySearch, operated by the LDS Church, gathers, preserves and shares genealogical records worldwide. It offers free access to its resources and service online at FamilySearch.org. Anyone interested in learning more about family history and wants to do research on his or her ancestors is invited to the Ipoh Family History Center which is open on Sundays 1pm to 2pm, Fridays 1.30pm to 3.30pm or call 016 538 0121 for an appointment.
