The mayor of Ipoh, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin urged Ipohites to care for their environmental surroundings by participating more in community activities that involve planting trees to beautify the city.
According to him, to aid in this initiative, Ipoh City Council (MBI) will be undertaking a continual tree-planting project around Ipoh.
“The project involves tree species such as samanea saman (rain tree), lagerstroemia speciosa (giant crepe-myrtle), cinnamomum verum (Ceylon cinnamon tree) and pterocarpus indicus (rosewood tree) alongside other plant species that are capable of both high carbon dioxide absorption and oxygen release.
“We’ll start the project at Kinta Riverfront Walk, where upgrade and renovation works are expected to complete by early next year, in which we’ll be beautifying the area with more trees, so as to provide more comfort to visitors in the future.”
He told reporters so during a ‘Green Our Earth, Save Our Future Generations’ campaign at a recreational field in the centre of Housing Trust (a residential area behind The Store Jalan Kampar) in Ipoh recently.
The campaign is an effort by the Lions Club of Perak Silver State, supported by MBI and Perak Food Bank.
Present were city councillor for Pasir Pinji Zone, Dr Richard Ng who is also President of Lions Club of Perak Silver State, Perak Food Bank chairwoman, Datin Seri Nomee Ashikin Mohamed Radzi and her husband, former Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu.
“I would like to commend those involved with the project, as it’s an extremely helpful initiative to realise MBI’s mission in making Ipoh a Low Carbon City by 2030.
“Hopefully, the campaign will be instrumental in instilling environmental care among Ipohites,” Rumaizi expressed.
