Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in his televised address today (January 11) highlighted, “The situation today is indeed very alarming. Our healthcare system is under tremendous pressure now than at any other time since the start of the pandemic. As I have said before, unprecedented situations call for unprecedented measures.”
Thus, effective 12.01am January 13 till 26, 5 states and 3 federal territories are to be placed under Movement Control Order (MCO), another 6 states to be placed under Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) and the remaining 2 states to be placed under Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO):
MCO – Pulau Pinang, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Labuan, Johor, Sabah and Melaka.
CMCO – Kedah, Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang.
RMCO – Sarawak and Perlis.
At the same time, interstate travels are not permitted nationwide. In states placed under MCO, interdistrict travel is not allowed, and movement is limited to within a 10km radius only for the purpose of purchasing necessities.
Social activities which involve a gathering such as wedding receptions, seminars, religious parades, meetings, festivities and team sports are only permitted in states placed under RMCO in strict compliance with SOPs.
In states placed under CMCO, religious activities are still allowed with the number of attendees as allocated in the SOPs while food establishments are allowed to operate as usual following the SOPs.
Muhyiddin reminded all to continue abiding by the SOPs which include frequent handwashing, wearing masks in public settings, practise physical distancing and avoid touching.
“We can win only if we unite to fight the virus,” he concluded.
