HRH Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah has allowed Friday prayers to be held at all mosques and suraus in the state.
The allowance includes suraus in office buildings, institutions, universities, colleges, schools and factories over the course of the Movement Control Order (MCO).
According to the President of Perak Islamic Religious Council and Malay Customs (MAIPk), Dato’ Seri Mohd Annuar Zaini, the matter was decided following Sultan Nazrin’s consideration of MAIPk’s suggestion based on advice by the State Islamic Religious Edict (Fatwa) Council, alongside the Ministry of Health (MOH) and National Security Council (MKN).
He added, the allowance is to enable more individuals to fulfill their Friday prayers.
“Only a maximum of 40, excluding parish committee members and mosque or surau officers, are allowed in a prayer session for Friday prayers, obligatory prayers and Islamic funeral prayers (solat jenazah).
“The allowance applies only to Malaysian male citizens aged between 18 to 70,” Mohd Annuar explained in a media statement dated today (January 27).
Physical distancing rules between each individual will be tightened with the introduction of a new mechanism that comprises control of entrance and exit flow in mosques and suraus.
Mohd Annuar stated that religious activities such as lectures between Maghrib (late evening) and Isyak (night) prayers are also allowed, but shall cease when Isyak prayer time comes.
“However, any banquets in or surrounding mosque and surau vicinities are prohibited.
“The allowance is effective starting tomorrow (January 28) until new regulations are released during the MCO and/or Conditional MCO (CMCO) period,” he mentioned.
