33,079 SPM Candidates to Sit for Exams Starting Today

Some 33,079 examination candidates from around Perak comprising 31,676 school candidates and 1,403 private candidates will be sitting for their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) (Malaysian Certificate of Education) exams starting today (February 22).

According to the Perak State Director of Education, Dr Mohd Suhaimi Mohamed Ali, the SPM exam which lasts till March 25 is the first to be held since the COVID-19 pandemic onset which caused it to be postponed twice.

“To execute the public exam, the health and safety of candidates and staff are top priorities of the Ministry of Education (MOE) Malaysia.

“The Ministry has released a special guideline as preparatory steps to face any possibilities, besides ensuring a safe and smooth exam procedure.

“Through exam guideline arrangements, candidates found positive of the COVID-19 virus and candidates under quarantine are disallowed from sitting for their exams. However, they’ll be subject to a reschedule by the Malaysian Examinations Board (LPM),” he said in his speech today.

327 exam centres were listed, 293 out of which are schools and the remaining 34 are private centres.

Mohd Suhaimi added that the Perak State Education Department (JPNP) works hand-in-hand with the State Health Department, District Health Office, Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), National Security Council (MKN), Fire and Rescue Service Department, The People’s Volunteer Corps (RELA) and the Kinta Land and District Office to assist in exam affairs and to guarantee perfect control of candidates’ and staff’s safety.

“Hopefully, those involved will perform their duties responsibly and with integrity, besides being especially vigilant in preventing the spread of COVID-19,” he expressed.
