Malaysia through the lenses of a Mat Salleh: Episode 4

Butterfly and Bird Parks of Kuala Lumpur

Malaysia through the lenses of a Mat Salleh

By Philippe A.Durant

Thanks again to those who are following my photographic journey, for the appreciation.

Day 4: Butterfly and Bird Parks of Kuala Lumpur

A gated attraction, the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park (MalayTaman Burung Kuala Lumpur) is a 20.9-acre (8.5 ha) public aviary in Kuala LumpurMalaysia. It is a popular tourist attraction in the country, receiving an annual average of 200,000 visitors. It is located adjacent to the Lake Gardens within a KL green lung in Bukit Aman, close to the National Mosque and Royal Malaysian Police Museum. The Bird Park houses more than 3,000 birds representing more than 200 species in an enclosed aviary (Wikipedia). A butterfly park is located within walking distance. It was quite old and run-down last time I went a few years ago.

I have dedicated a lot of my time to photography, improving my skills and technique and buying better equipment. Apparently, I also have a good eye and feel for it, but I still do not have the patience required to be a bird photographer. I cannot stay still for hours waiting for the top capture. I also did not invest in the very long lenses required, for the same reason. As a consequence, I only manage to shoot birds and animals in general in parks, rarely in the wild, thanks to pure luck for a miraculous second. When we come to the episodes about places further north, there will be interesting natural photos of birds.

I went a few times to the parks and here are some of the photographs I took.

Do follow my daily postings about different themes and/or locations and do not hesitate to comment constructively. Embark on a photographic journey in Malaysia through the lenses of a Mat Salleh.

Bon voyage.
