Following concerns for the tourism sector which was badly affected by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the state government through Tourism Perak has implemented a multitude of missions to re-spur Perak’s tourism sector.
According to the Executive Councillor for Housing, Local Government and Tourism, Dato’ Nolee Ashilin Mohamed Radzi, statistics of the national tourism industry in 2020 recorded losses of roughly RM100 billion and this is a worrying issue.
“The 2020-2030 National Tourism Policy (DPN) launched by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, is considered a dynamic and strategic directive in recovering the country’s tourism industry.
“The state government of Perak will continue supporting the DPN to aid in handling issues caused by the pandemic, some of which are via provision of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) courses, in assisting tour guides and workers affected by the pandemic.
“This programme will be able to improve knowledge and skills as an additional value to keep on competing in the tourism sector,” she said during her speech in conjunction with Taiping Zoo and Night Safari’s 60th anniversary celebration yesterday (March 7).
Nolee Ashilin added, the execution of consolidation courses for management skills, preparation of tourism package briefings and familiarisation trips (fam-trips) tremendously helped industry operators in returning with higher creativity and productivity.
“This year, plans to organise various tourism programmes in all districts will continue, but they are subject to orders from the National Security Council (MKN) and the Ministry of Health (MOH) from time to time,” she mentioned.
