The Perak State Herbs Park, which was well-known at one time, is now undergoing a transformation phase to be made a high-tech hub and an agro-tourism destination in the state.
According to the managing director of Proven Optimisation Innovative Solutions Sdn Bhd (POIS), Eidia Erriany Abd Rahman, the park owned by government-linked companies (GLC) and the State Agricultural Development Corporation (SADC) is in the midst of development and repair under POIS’ funding and management.
“The Treasure @ Taman Herba Gopeng is a new name for the herbs park after identification of three main cores, namely education, community development and environmental preservation.
“POIS will retain the original concept of herb planting like before as the main attraction. Realising the importance of herbs in medicine, aromatherapy and cosmetics, also as ulam (traditional salad) and spices, it’ll provide job and business opportunities for the community, simultaneously improving local socio-economic status.
“Various amenities, activities and programmes will be brought into realisation such as education, entrepreneurship and recreational grounds for visitors to have fun with their families during weekends.”
She told reporters after a CSR contribution presentation programme in conjunction with the Ramadan Al-Mubarak celebration yesterday (March 19).
The project of The Treasure @ Taman Herba Gopeng will undergo three phases of repairs and upgrades which are expected to be completed by 2023. The herbs park will open in June this year should the first phase be completed.
Some of the agencies involved in making a go of The Treasure @ Taman Herba Gopeng include the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI), Department of Agriculture, along with a few local universities such as Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) and Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP).
POIS is a bumiputera company possessing more than 30 years of experience in sectors of information, communication, technology and green technology. The company is based in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
Previously, Eidia Erriany presented basic necessities to nine local residents comprising single mothers and poor households.
Norsiah Mohd Radzi, 68, a single mother for 30 years, expressed her gratitude for POIS’ contribution.
“I thank POIS for the contribution which will help lessen the spendings on kitchen and food items with the fasting month around the corner,” Norsiah, who rents at Taman Raia, expressed.
