Reinforcing COVID-19 Preparedness in the State

The state government has increased the preparedness of the COVID-19 low risk treatment centre (PKRC) at Ipoh Badminton Stadium by providing 100 more beds, bumping up the total number from 208 to 308.

According to the Menteri Besar of Perak, Dato’ Saarani Mohamad, this is to accommodate a further forecasted spike of positive cases in the coming weeks.

“The government is also in the midst of identifying new locations for establishments of PKRC, either at the northern zone of the state or around Hilir Perak or Manjung Districts as a means to be on standby for a long-running transmission of the deadly virus.

“Perak can no longer depend on PKRC at MAEPS Serdang in Selangor or the one at Jawi in Seberang Perai, Penang, as both are also facing the onset of increased COVID-19-positive patients.”

He told reporters during a media session held online via Zoom earlier today (May 19).

Meanwhile, Saarani added that food and drinks will be allocated by the government for staff of vaccination centres (PPV).

“This is a form of our continuous support to the frontliners who are constantly fighting in breaking the infection chain of COVID-19.

“However, I urge all PPV in the state to ensure that SOPs are followed to prevent overcrowding and a possible infection cluster from emerging,” he reminded.
