A total of 5,867 media practitioners from 114 registered media agencies will be receiving COVID-19 vaccine injections soon.
Coordinating Minister for the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK), Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar stated that the decision was made by the national COVID-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) to prioritise frontliners including teachers and media practitioners.
“Appointments will be assigned as soon as possible after the CITF receives their details,” he said during a recent media conference together with the Health Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba.
Prior to this, the government agreed to include media practitioners in the priority list for receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, subject to vaccine supply.
On April 28, Khairy Jamaluddin had informed that a total of 1,500 media practitioners who are members of National Union of Journalists Malaysia (NUJ) and Journalists Association of Sarawak and Sabah will receive the COVID-19 vaccine and it was expected to take place in May.
According to Khairy Jamaluddin who also serves as the Minister of Science, Technology & Innovation, injections will be given after the list of names of media practitioners involved is received.
“We have received a list of 1,500 media practitioners under NUJ and the Journalists Association of Sarawak and Sabah. We will begin the vaccination for media practitioners in May,” he said.
