A man aged 20 drowned while kayaking at Ulu Geruntum in Gopeng earlier today (May 31).
A spokesperson for the Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) said that an emergency call was received at around 4.06pm.
“A squad of seven and a vehicle from the Gopeng Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) were rushed to the scene.
“However, given the vicinity that’s only accessible via walking and rafting, the squad was directed to access the location of the incident by boarding a rafting boat with a driver.
“Upon arrival, the victim was found stuck in between crevices of the waterfall rocks which toughened the rescue operation.
“The squad used a safety rope with the hauling and lowering technique to rescue the victim.
“His remains were handed over to the police for further actions,” the spokesperson explained.
The operation which ended at around 6.02pm was led by Assistant Fire Superintendent (PPgB) Rohana Mustapa.
