There should be a growing concern about the transmission of COVID-19 among children and adolescents as there has been a worrying number of 82,341 cases involving patients aged under 18.
The figures recorded from January 25 till May 30 show that the infection is spreading among the younger community.
The Director-General of Health, Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said via Twitter that 19,851 out of the total cases involved babies under the age of 4. “Meanwhile, another 8,237 are children between the ages of five and six.
“In addition, the Ministry of Health (MOH) has recorded 26,851 cases involving individuals aged seven to 12 and 27,402 involving teenagers from ages 13 to 17,” he said.
Noor Hisham strictly calls on the people to adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs). He also said that those who put their children under the risk of COVID-19 infection would be investigated for violating the SOPs set by the National Security Council (MKN).
