A 60-year-old mechanic met his demise due to a work accident at a tyre service centre in Menglembu yesterday (June 22).
According to the chief of Ipoh District Police Headquarters (IPD), Assistant Commissioner Yahaya Hassan, a squad from the Menglembu Police Station was rushed to the location involved after receiving a call regarding the incident at around 10.35am.
“Upon the squad’s arrival, the victim was found lying lifeless with blood on his face.
“The incident’s witness stated that he was shocked by a sudden explosion that came from the tyre section while he was in the midst of changing.
“He added that a steel beam which was used in the process was apparently sent flying by the force of the explosion and had fatally hit the victim on his head.
“The witness then immediately notified the employer regarding the incident before contacting the police and ambulance,” he explained.
The victim was confirmed dead by an on-site assistant medical officer.
“His remains were sent to the Forensic Department of Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) in Ipoh for post-mortem.
“Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the incident and this case has been classified as a sudden death,” Yahaya added.
