Soroptimist International Ipoh (SII) contributed a total of 40 packs of daily necessities to the residents of Anjung Tawas Flat today (June 23). The contributions comprised rice, eggs, noodles, sugar, oatmeal and oil, among others.
The president of SII, Kimberly Tan said it is a privilege to be able to assist vulnerable communities especially in times of crisis. “We discovered Anjung Tawas Flat through Faiz, a very dedicated social activist.
“The funds and food are donated by our members, friends and members of the public. Going a little out of what we do, we want to feed underprivileged families as a full tummy can change the future,” she added.
According to Mohammad Faiz Bin Abdullah, who is also an e-hailing driver, he came across the flat while he was dropping off a passenger. Out of curiosity, he began talking to some of the residents and found out that there are 10 local families and foreigners residing at the residential flat.
“All of them are going through hard times due to the MCO. So, I spoke to SII and thankfully, we managed to distribute groceries to 40 families there. All of them were very grateful for the donation. I’ll continue helping the poor and needy people,” he said.
Established in November 2012, Soroptimist International Ipoh a non-profit organisation (NGO) with the aim of empowering women and children.
