Perak is now home to 101 vaccination centres (PPVs), comprising 31 public PPVs and 70 privately owned ones, which are projected to provide between 25,000 to 30,000 doses daily.
According to the Menteri Besar of Perak, Dato’ Saarani Mohamad, this month of July is scheduled for the arrival of 688,000 new vaccine doses, with the first 147,000 expected to land next week.
“The state-level National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) has recorded a significant improvement in the duration of the week’s course.
“For instance, 14,402 jabs were administered on June 30 last month, climbing to 15,918 on July 1 and 19,341 on July 2.
“The momentum was driven by the implementation of several initiatives, with one being the vaccination outreach programme to the Orang Asli settlements which has been ongoing since May 11 this year.
“To further improve vaccination capacity in Perak, the state government will be pulling in more hospitals and private clinics to be involved in PICK.”
He told reporters during a media session at the vaccination outreach programme in Kampung Chadak in Ulu Kinta earlier today (July 4).
Also present were the parliamentary member for the federal constituency of Tambun, Dato’ Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu and the Executive Councillor for Rural Development, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, Dato’ Zainol Fadzi Paharudin, among others.
Some 100 Orang Asli residents from five kampongs in Ulu Kinta were given jabs at the mobile PPV in Kampung Chadak today.
“I’ve seen more than 100 who were present at the outreach programme. Although some aren’t scheduled to receive the jab today, this goes on to prove that even the Orang Asli can’t wait to get the vaccine.
“Thus, I urge everyone to be registered for vaccination in order to facilitate the return of our lives to normal as soon as possible, hopefully by the end of this year.
“I would like to thank the state government and the Department of Orang Asli Development (JAKOA) for their efforts in instilling confidence among the inlanders towards the vaccination programme,” Faizal expressed.
