As promised, the Saudi Arabian government donated more than 4.5 million units of various types of medical equipment and one million doses of AstraZeneca vaccines to Malaysia.
The contribution was sent via three aircrafts of Saudia Airlines which arrived yesterday (July 29) and today.
Senior Minister of Foregin Affairs, Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said the government and citizens of Malaysia deeply appreciate the donations.
“On behalf of the government, I would like to express utmost appreciation to Saudi Arabia for such responsive action.
“This is not the first time; in fact, Saudi Arabia is one of the first countries to channel eight million units of medical supplies to Malaysia around May last year,” he said in a statement today.
The donation was made just a few days after King Salman Abdulaziz Al Saud himself ordered the King Salman Centre for Relief and Humanitarian Action to distribute the donation.
The continuous assistance from King Salman Abdulaziz Al Saud, who is also the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, in aiding Malaysia to face the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic truly proves the solidarity of the Saudi Arabian government.
In total, the estimated value of the equipment is 18.75 million riyals (RM21.1 million), including three million units of surgical masks and one million units of N95/K95 masks.
Also contributed were 500,000 gloves and 10,000 personal protective equipment as well as 319 units of oxygen compressors, 150 units of portable ventilators and 150 electric hospital beds.
