The first-ever mobile vaccination centre (PPV) is set to further hasten the vaccination rate in Perak via the Pinji Kinta Vax on Wheels initiative by the Pasir Pinji ADUN and Ipoh Timor MP Community Centre.
According to the state legislative assembly member (ADUN) for Pasir Pinji constituency, Howard Lee Chuan How, the mobile PPV will be able to administer up to 402 jabs per day for the first phase of the initiative.
“Vax on Wheels took around two months to be realised, where we liaised with multiple parties such as the COVID-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF), Ministry of Health (MOH) and state-level National Security Council (MKN), along with Terminal Amanjaya for bus usage.
“The bus, which has been modified for the purpose of a mobile PPV, is fully air conditioned and installed with three cubicles to facilitate administering the jabs, while internal atmospheric air flushing is performed every four hours for ventilation.
“With that said, constituents of Pasir Pinji no longer need to travel to the community centre here to enquire about vaccination appointments, as the mobile PPV will have a home visit outreach team specially tasked to register walk-ins at surrounding residential areas.
“As such, this initiative prioritises the elderly, disabled (OKU), digitally illiterate and vulnerable groups with transportation and accessibility issues.
“The capacity will be subject to increase in the near future, depending on the number of people who will be and have been vaccinated.”
He told reporters during a media session at the centre in Pasir Pinji today (August 4).
Also present was the member of parliament (MP) for Ipoh Timor Wong Kah Woh, Teluk Intan MP Nga Kor Ming and Canning ADUN Jenny Choy Tsi Jen.
Countering fake news regarding the initiative which was circulating yesterday (August 3), Howard stressed that the initiative strictly requires no payment whatsoever in order for individuals to obtain the jabs.
“I’m very disappointed with such irresponsible actions. I would like to reiterate that we will never ever charge any fee for the vaccination. The jabs are administered free of charge.
“Also know that the mobile PPV initiative is fully funded by ourselves and CITF, without any financial support from the state government.
“For everyone’s information, this initiative has been approved and is a joint effort by the centre with CKS Bumi Sdn Bhd, Mediklinik Manjoi, CITF, MKN and MOH.
“As a reminder, Vax on Wheels is only for Pasir Pinji constituents. Should any individuals from other areas take advantage of the mobile PPV, it’ll fail on the spot.
“Our initiative is considered a pilot project in the state, so hopefully, it goes well as we planned.
“The mobile PPV will be operational starting August 7, from 9am to 5pm daily.
“As a start, the mobile PPV will be situated at Taman Hoover, before proceeding to other places such as Taman Pinggir Sungai Pasir Pinji (where Pinji Fest was last held in 2019) and Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (SJK) (C) Sam Chai in Taman Happy.
“This initiative is one of many to ensure that Perak transitions into the third phase of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) as soon as possible,” Howard added.
