Malaysia Budget Hotel Association (MyBHA) Perak opined that the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) issued by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC) for hotel operators are impractical for application.
Chairperson, Zamari Muhyi said that MOTAC should lay out the details of the problems faced by operators before issuing any statements on SOPs involving the tourism sector.
“According to the SOPs issued yesterday (August 19), hotel owners must display a complete vaccination certificate for hotel employees as required. However, most hotel staff still have not received complete COVID-19 vaccination presently.
“The SOPs issued to resume operation for the hotel sector are indeed welcomed, but what about the fate of staff who have not received the vaccines? This is a constraint for operators to resume operation.
“We hope the efforts of the state government can help hotel operators to expedite the provision of vaccines to all staff on duty,” he said in a statement today.
Zamari, who is also the President of the Perak Bumiputra Tourism Operators Association (PPPBNP), added that the paralysis of the hotel and tourism industry began after the government implemented the Movement Control Order (PKP) from last year to address the COVID-19 crisis that is still ongoing.
“As a result, there is no source of income to cover maintenance costs and high debt costs among hotel operators. Most saddening is that many entrepreneurs are forced to cease operation.
“Once again, I appeal to the state government, especially the Menteri Besar of Perak, to expedite the provision of vaccines among our staff so that the industry can operate in accordance with the set SOPs,” he said.
