Madam Goh Bak Nai, a senior citizen aged 105 years old, received her first dose of Sinovac vaccination at the Perak Community Specialist Hospital (PCSH) yesterday morning (October 6).
Goh’s son, Dato’ Ng Kheng Yeow, recalled that initially he never thought of registering his mother for vaccination as she only stays at home and rarely goes out. However, he decided to get his mother vaccinated as they are expecting to attend a family wedding function next year.
“Otherwise, it will pose a high risk for my mother to join any social functions in future. Today I feel very happy and proud of her. She got her vaccination done from the car, thus it was very convenient. I would like to take this opportunity to thank PCSH for its well-organized vaccination centre, not forgetting the doctor, staff and volunteers who were very friendly and caring,” he expressed.
Nicholas Chan, Chief Executive Officer of PCSH shared: “The spirit and courage of Madam Goh should be emulated to answer the government’s call to ensure as many Malaysians as possible receive the vaccine. PCSH is proud to assist in the COVID-19 Immunisation Programme with its daily vaccination capacity of 1,200 recipients (400 recipients at PCSH and 800 recipients at Meru Valley Resort). The number, though may not be huge, is a testament and support to increase the national vaccination rate and expedite the vaccination programme.”
He added that PCSH has started vaccinating teenagers of 12 years and above as well.
“As a healthcare provider, PCSH is always looking forward to opportunities to aid in the nation’s efforts in curbing COVID-19,” Nicholas enthused.
With a history dating back to 117 years ago, PCSH was established by a group of philanthropists, doctors and caring members of the community. From its humble beginnings as a 6-bedded hospital rendering maternity services to Chinese families in the tin-mining community in Perak, today it is a 69-bedded multi-disciplinary specialist hospital and one of the oldest community hospitals in Malaysia.
A new 6-storey hospital extension block is currently being constructed to enhance its facilities and provide more quality as well as affordable healthcare services to the community.
