In conjunction with ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Month – Pink October’, the Chief Executive Officer of Pantai Hospital Ipoh (PHI), Chong Siet Fong, recommended all women aged 40 and above to undergo a mammogram screening test.
She said the mammogram screening test is a collaborative programme with the National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM) to help the community, especially the less fortunate women.
“Through this free screening test, we are targeting women with a household income below RM5,000.
“Any woman who is interested and qualified can contact the PHI Imaging Department at 05-5405659.
“This is our caring effort for the community in celebrating the 25th anniversary of Pantai Hospital Ipoh, apart from donating 250 food boxes and healthcare packs to those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic,” she said after presenting 240 food boxes including healthcare packs to the Good Shepherd Services (GSS) Community Center in Buntong today (October 8).
GSS is a non-profit organization, operating under the Good Shepherd Sisters company which was established since 1956 to help the local community, especially women and children.
GSS manager Beatrice Lim, said her party was very pleased to receive the food box donation from PHI and will distribute it to the B40 group.
“We also welcome the mammogram screening test programme implemented by PHI with NCSM. We will manage the registration for all who are interested in getting the service,” she said.
Wan Nor Rosnani Wan Nor Rusli, 33, a single mother, said the food box provided really helped with her daily expenses, having to care for her three children and two children of her siblings.
“I am grateful to this community center that’s so caring towards the community regardless of race. Similarly, PHI has provided a food box that can ease my daily expenses,” said Wan who works at a nearby supermarket.
Another recipient, C.Paruvathy, 66, said the pandemic affected the family enormously.
“This food box provides me with relief even if it’s for a moment. For now, I don’t have to go to the store to buy food and ensure my safety,” Paruvathy said, accompanied by her grandchild.
