Siblings Claimed Trial Over Threatening and Hurting a Woman

An unemployed man claimed trial over a charge of threatening to kill at the Ipoh Sessions/Magistrate Court today (October 15).

The accused, S. Gunasilan, 34, pleaded not guilty in front of Magistrate Melati Diyana.

According to charge sheets, he allegedly frightened an individual named K. Shanmuga Priya by threatening to kill her at Restoran Khalisa in Jalan Raja Perempuan Mazwin, Ipoh.

He purportedly committed the offence at around 3.10pm on October 5 earlier this month.

The accused was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries punishment of imprisonment up to seven years, or a fine, or both, if convicted.

Meanwhile, in a separate session, the accused’s sister, S. Eswari, 42, also pleaded not guilty over a charge of intentionally causing hurt to the same individual at the same place and time.

She made the plea in front of Magistrate Khir Nizam Jemari.

For this offence, she was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries punishment of imprisonment up to one year, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, if convicted.

The court set bail for Gunasilan at RM2,000 with one surety, as well as issuing an additional order that he does not harass the victim, while for Eswari, a bail at RM1,500 with one surety.

Proceedings for the first were conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Nor Syahirah Azhar, while the second by DPP Amalina Harun.

Both of the accused were represented by lawyers Mahinderjit Singh and Mohd Khazali Yin.

The first session was fixed for mention on November 29, while the second on October 20.
