Pangkor Island emerged as the most popular choice of holiday destination after the reopening of the tourism sector in the state.
Executive Councillor for Housing, Local Government and Tourism, Dato’ Nolee Ashilin binti Dato’ Mohammed Radzi said that based on the issued data, Pangkor Island showed the highest rate at 78.0% of accommodation bookings involving 53 hotels registered under the Pangkor Island Hotel and Resort Association, with 1,156 rooms and 900 bookings from visitors from October 10 to 17.
“It shows a positive development towards the recovery of the tourism industry especially in Perak.
“Perak remains as the choice of holiday destination whether for individuals or groups. Perak has various tourism products that can fulfill every taste of visitors.
“Tourism Perak will intensify its promotions especially via #travelperaklah vouchers and will hold various events to spice up the tourism industry in the state. However, it will be carried out with compliance with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and permission from the National Security Council,” she said during a recent media conference.
The Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH), Ipoh, also recorded an occupancy rate of 50% for 15 hotels involving 4,000 rooms during the same period.
Hotels under the area of the Taiping Municipal Council recorded 56.0% with 3,124 accommodation bookings for a total of 5,553 rooms.
Meanwhile, the Malaysia Budget Hotel Association (MyBHA) recorded a 46.1% occupancy rate involving areas of Ipoh, Tanjung Malim, Tapah, Manjung, Kuala Kangsar and Taiping among others.
According to Nolee, from her recent visits to the Lumut Jetty, Marina Island Jetty and Pangkor Island Jetty, she observed that the issue of congestion at all entry points had been overcome and resolved effectively.
“Members of the public who wish to visit Pangkor Island are encouraged to book ferry tickets online to reduce congestion and ensure safety throughout holidays,” she advised.
