AMCAA Ipoh AGM cum Election of the 23rd Committee Members

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with strict restrictions and standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the government as well as in accordance to the instruction by the Registrar of Societies, the Ave Maria Convent Alumni Association Ipoh (AMCAA) recently held its Annual General Meeting cum Election of the 23rd committee members for the fiscal year 2021-2023 via online service. Nineteen committee members were elected, of which four are new faces while Madam Moy Ooi Thye remains the President and Madam Chik Mun Ling the Deputy President.

Madam Moy expressed her sincere appreciation to all the committee members for their years of dedicated service and full cooperation in carrying out all activities successfully. She gave thanks especially to Chik Mun Ling, Dr. Ng Zee Meant, Lee Lai Ping, Esther Yee and Carine Chong for the tireless effort they had put in to arrange the online meeting and ensure it ran smoothly. 

Under the severe MCO and SOP restrictions, the Association had no choice but to further postpone the Second Edition of the Outstanding AMCIAN Award that was originally scheduled to be held on August 22, 2020 at the Kinta Riverfront Hotel. They assure that the event will be held as soon as the opportunity arises, aiming to continue offering all distinguished and outstanding Ex-AMCians a platform to showcase their excellence and contributions to society in their respective careers and endeavours.

AMCAA’s many projects include the AMCAA Education Sponsorship Programme that aims to provide financial aid to the students currently studying in SMJK and SJKC Ave Maria Convent who are in need of tuition fees, mobile data or electronic devices to follow online learning at home. The launch of the project had the committee’s unanimous agreement and a donation drive was promptly organised for the Education Sponsorship Fund. 

AMCAA set the ball rolling by contributing RM 20,000. AMC’s retired principal and headmistress also presented a generous donation. To date, the Association collected around RM 70,000 in total. 

Through the effort of Chik Mun Ling, and with the cooperation of the schools, interviews were conducted with the shortlisted families. The items required by the families, either in cash or kind, were subsequently handed over to them. 

The Association wishes to express its sincere gratitude and appreciation to all donors for their generosity and support for the programme. Madam Moy expressed her hopes that the AMCAA Education Sponsorship Programme will be continued as an annual project.
