Subsidies to Control Population of Strays
The state government takes the issue of strays seriously to ensure the cleanliness of the environment.
Executive Councillor for Housing, Local Government and Tourism, Dato’ Nolee Ashilin binti Dato’ Mohammed Radzi said the state government will take several steps to overcome the issue of strays, especially roaming cats and dogs.
“Beginning next year, the local government division will organise a seasonal campaign by offering subsidies for health services, such as the neutering of strays.
“The subsidies will be established from a few sources, namely the state government and contributions from non-governmental organizations (NGOs) whereby we will reduce the payment to a minimal rate.
“The state government opines that this initiative should be continued to ensure the welfare of strays and the wellbeing of the local ecosystem,” she said after launching the Street Cat Festival 2021 at The Treasure @ Herb Garden in Gopeng yesterday.
Nolee also hoped that the seasonal campaign will encourage education among animal owners to be more responsible.
She also expressed support for the effort of various parties that have implemented contests for differently-abled cats and unique cats, among other activities.
“With the current COVID-19 pandemic and flood situation, rescuers can maximise their effort and expand their collaborations with related agencies to aid the stray cats and dogs on a bigger scale especially in Perak.
“The organisation of the Meow Food Truck festival is a step to educate the younger generation and promote awareness among members of the public in caring for stray cats, congratulations,” she added.
