No Cases of Omicron Variant in Perak from January 3 Till Present – Mohd Akmal

Members of the public are urged to continue to cooperate in ensuring that the new COVID-19  variant, Omicron, does not spread among the local community of the state.

Executive Councillor for Health, Science, Environment and Green Technology, Mohd Akmal Kamaruddin said that there have been no cases of Omicron reported in the state from 3 January 2022 till present.

“Previously, there were 13 cases reported in the state, however, those were not local cases. It is hoped that the people remain alert in abiding by the set SOPs especially at hotspots.

“We also observe a decreasing percentage of positive COVID-19 cases. This involves the community’s vigilance in completing two doses of vaccination and booster shot.

“To date, the number of recipients of booster shots in Perak is 527,964 individuals. It shows a positive development and will further increase from time to time. Overall, 4 million complete doses have been administered in the state. This is a success in vaccination administration which recorded 74% till January 2022,” he told the media after a presentation ceremony of ventilators at Raja Perempuan Bainun (HRPB) Hospital yesterday.

Mohd Akmal Kamaruddin also commented on the issue of the distribution of fake COVID-19 vaccination certificates which occurred in Terengganu recently.

“We look at the case of selling fake vaccination certificates seriously. The Ministry of Health and the police (PDRM) will continue to carry out monitoring of the responsible parties.

“To date, there are no cases of fake vaccination certificates in Perak. If found happening, stern legal action will be taken. This is a serious offence involving the safety and wellbeing of all,” he stated.
